Do you accept Edison Chen’s apology? 2

In the end Edison Chen came back to Hong Kong to hold his press conference literally in the following days of the earth-shattering death of Lydia Sum. In his speech, he admitted most of the photos which were private and were not shown to anyone were taken by him. He apologized to his family, friends and the victims the ladies on the photos, and therefore he begged for forgiveness from the public. What is most shocking of his speech is he decided to quit the entertainment industry in Hong Kong.

His  speech  was a very witty and proper response definitely assisted by his think tank, but someone challenged the press conference and his stepping away of Hong Kong entertainment industry are his only choice to be done to resolve the whole mess because  he is currently getting a seat to star in Hollywood movies and he can just devote himself on the showbiz in either Mainland China or Taiwan. Meanwhile, people thought it was just another well-planned tactic to prevent any legal problems in the future in view of the statement, in which he would reserve all the rights to have legal actions for his private photos published in magazines, written by his lawyers.

So after hearing different opinion, do you think his apology is whole-hearted? What do you think? Do you accept his apology? What do you think about the incident now? And comparing to the one done by Gillian Chung, which one gains your trust more?

"Today I have come back to Hong Kong to stand before you and account for myself. I have never escaped from my responsibility. During the past few weeks, I have been with my mother and my family and my loved ones to show support and care and at the same time to have them support and care for me.

I admit that most of the photos being circulated on the Internet were taken by me. But these photos are very private and have not been shown to people and are never intended to be shown to anyone. These photos were stolen from me illegally and distributed without my consent.

There is no doubt whoever obtained these photos have them uploaded on the Internet with malicious and deliberate intent. This matter has deteriorated to the extent that society as a whole has been affected by this. In this regard, I am deeply saddened. I would like now to apologize to all the people for all the suffering that has been caused and the problems that have arisen from this. I would like to apologize to all the ladies and to all their families for any harm or hurt that they have been feeling. I am sorry. I would like to also apologize to my mother and my father for the pain and suffering I have caused them during the past few weeks. Most importantly, I would like to say sorry to all the people of Hong Kong. I give my apology sincerely to you all, unreservedly and with my heart.

I know young people in Hong Kong look up to many figures in our society. And in this regard, I have failed. I failed as a role model. However, I wish this matter will teach everyone a lesson. To all the young people in our community, let this be a lesson for you all. This is not an example to be set for you.

During my time away, I have made an important decision. I will whole-heartedly fulfill all commitments that I have to date. But after that, I decided to step away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry. I have decided to do this to give myself an opportunity to heal myself and to search my soul. I will dedicate my time to charity and community work within the next few months. I will be away from Hong Kong entertainment industry indefinitely. There is no time frame.

I have been assisting the police since the first day the photos were published and I will continue to assist them. After this press con., I have obligation to help them with their investigation and hope that this case can end soon as everyone I think has the same wish.

I would like to use this opportunity to thank the police for their hard work on this case. Thank you. I believe everyone’s priority now (and) my priority now is to stop the suffering and pain, for not letting this…we do not want to let this situation become more out of control. We need to protect all the innocents and all the young from matters like this. In this regard, I have instructed my lawyers to do everything possible within the law to protect all the innocents, victims of this case. I believe that a press statement is being issued as we speak on what my lawyers have advised me to do.

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for coming here today and listening to what I have to say. I would like to also apologize once again to all the ladies and their families, my family and to everyone in Hong Kong and everyone in our society. I am deeply saddened by this. And I apologize to everyone (who) has to go through this. I would like to also thank you for giving me this opportunity to say what I have wanted to say all along in my heart.

I hope, after today, I can have your forgiveness. With regard to this case, with everything, everything that has happened, I am deeply sorry. I hope you all accept my apology and give me a chance.

Thank you." – Edison Chen

those photo are his private photo. I think there’re a lot of people that has that kind of photo in their private collection too. The different here is that, Edison is a celebrities & the photos leaks out. So, media&people sees it as a crime. And now, he’s apologizing. At least his’s doenst look fake like Gillian’s one. And he’s not lying like Gillian.

  2. aNne Feb 21, 2008 at 9:27 pm

what do i think about tis news tht gettin spread in worldwide??/i would strongly what lalala’s said..isit jus because he’s a celebrities so he gets to be in legal actions??? but think wisely, evryone do have their privacy..for some couples, they may even have sex photoes too…who noes???its part of the joyous that they may go through in their relationship…he’s not into some serious matter, there’s no big deal..he might be taking those photos as a memories and he gets to reminiscing some days…that’s memories, the media & people around sees it like a negative issues..and now he has a chance to turn over a new leaf, why cant we give him a chance to rather than putting me into the dead way??? if he has been taken into legal actions,i supposed all of the couples who did taken down their partner photos deserve to get what Edison gettin to…! Moreover,Edison is not taking those photos without permission but the girls are allowing him to do so..so its not neccesary the fault comes orginate from him but also the others..

  4. nasuha Feb 21, 2008 at 11:38 pm

he looks smug, but in truth, we cannot judge him or punish him even if there is a verdict to sentence him to probation, like God will punish him accordingly, so there’s no need to make this big ho0ha about the matter. Luckily he is apologising, what if he didn’t? Make matters worse cos it’ll show he’s a coward.

know what i wonder? with all those flash from camera’s i think he’ll get temp blindness.

  5. Kuro Feb 22, 2008 at 12:40 am

unforgiveable, that’s all i want to said. of course he need to show up and give an speech of what he had done. but well, God will punish him, do you think this sick guy is really begging for forgiveness, just this is the only way he can do in this moment. surely, i will never support such an artist anymore.

he do choose a smart date for his press conference right after the death of Lydia Sum, as focus will be mainly on Lydia. Lydia save him a big time on her death.
I admire Lydia Sum on her attitude of her contributions on the entertainment business but not this sick guy. I believe that a person is not that easy to change his personality. he is also fake….as Gilian, this word is for you lalala, do you think after so many evidence and photos is already leak out, he can still deny?? sorry, i am not naive and silly. if you believe his speech is something deep from his heart , i am sorry, this is definitely from his think tank and lawyer. Please don’t be naive and silly. quit the entertaiment business is for sure.. who want such an idol or actor , even i see his appearace now, i want to vomit, i think he will still try to work out his entertainment business in other countries.. but sorry.. i will never support this person.

  6. Derek Feb 22, 2008 at 2:21 am

if he cares about other people’s feelings, he won’t leave those pics in a laptop at the beginning. Besides, those are intimate photos of which two females inside have married already. He should delete, at least, those two pics.

  7. imprint Feb 22, 2008 at 2:42 am

I accept his apology. As he admits, he is the one who took all pictures and stupid enough to bring the computer to the repairing shop with all those files, but the pictures are taken with the consent with those ladies, and he is not the one who uploaded those pictures. I feel really bad for him. http://imprinttalk.com/?p=1188

  8. noprps Feb 22, 2008 at 4:25 am

Sure, his speech lacked professionalism, but he isnt trained to speak in public.

I believe the way the HK industry is built, returning would be harsh on him. I think his leaving really showed how much he cares about the image of himself and the HK industry.

Also, his leaving really shows how much the audience impacted his life. The fans and the industry built his image yet destroyed it.

  9. Calinh Feb 22, 2008 at 4:53 am

i support him ! I think he has no chance that’s all, but the photos are private, it’s his private life! i know a lot of guy have this kind of photos on their computer of his ex girlfiend…, i think it’s because he’s an asian star but if its happened in usa, the effect will not the same…

  10. Jeg Feb 22, 2008 at 5:43 am

What happens in private should remain private.

The ladies took part in those photos, they agreed to be photographed. Whose fault? the ladies and the photographer share the “crime”.

Derek I agree in partly… he should had deleted the photos, on the other hand he might had wanted to hold to the memories.. [:(] that was his misfortune. Whether the photos were in the laptop or not, that laptop is private property and no-one was supposed to be snooping its contents…

If the photos were taken without the ladies’ consent then… he would deserve being penalised, it looks like everybody was happy chanting ‘cheese”… They ALL created their mess now they must accept the consequences.

  11. misz roxy Feb 22, 2008 at 9:15 am

i dun mind. its their lives

  12. anonyomous Feb 22, 2008 at 10:26 am

now he’s a famous celeb even on the CNN..
Its the girls fault they let him shoot, its not
his fault someone stole his photos…
IF YOU want to be shot in a sexy pose or nude, DONT be afraid to let pple see it..
He is an idol now, rich famous handsome and a greater fucker too…
We never blamed him in the first place…
So why should we forgive him?

  13. edmund Feb 22, 2008 at 12:20 pm

yeah he was a coward in 1st video speech, but bit the bullet bravely this time esp AFTER DEATH THREATS surfaced & grew inevitable. he’s ghostly pale for good reasons…of being chopped to death!
i’d say Good Riddance easily had he never done Dog Bite Dog, or mustered some interesting chemistry/intensity with carina lau in Infernal Affairs 2. sigh.

  14. Nutshell Feb 22, 2008 at 3:57 pm

I do not accept his apology. Here’s why: if he’s sincere, then his apology should contain no lies. He said, “But these photos are very private and have not been shown to people and are never intended to be shown to anyone.” Is he kidding me? Do any of you really believe he didn’t show this to his friends? A close friend has SAID that he showed them off. Photos on a laptop? Why? PORTABLE! This guy was showing those photos to his close friends! So he apologizes…the apology of his life…and he starts off with a lie in the first minute. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? NO WAY WAS THAT APOLOGY SINCERE!

  15. Sunxc Feb 22, 2008 at 5:17 pm

    I accept his apology

  16. yoyoyo Feb 22, 2008 at 8:39 pm

Seriously speaking, it’s not really his fault and I accept his apology.
People should realise that the girls took part in the photos so they played a part in it.
Everyone shouldn’t just put the blame on him.
Just because he’s a celebrity, everybody makes a HOO-HAA over every single mistake he makes.
    Just remember something,
It takes 2 hands to clap.

  17. Grace Feb 23, 2008 at 1:12 pm

He has learnt his lesson and it’s not all his fault actually. I accept his apology.

  18. -- GIRL Feb 23, 2008 at 5:10 pm

    I accepted his apology.
It is not really his fault that he wanted the photos to be leaked out.
And the cause of all these commotion is because he is a celebrity , more so we should not blame him , even though he should have the responsibility to keep the pictures private .
But of course , who would want such pictures of your own to be leaked out ?
If he did it intentionally , then it would be a different case.
What he done was just part of human nature.
It is not like it happens to him only.
Other people have done it before, just that Edison is a celeb.
This is really the cause of human nature .

I voted for the first option.

  19. giRL Feb 24, 2008 at 10:05 pm

    i have no comments.
i feel that it is wrong of him to take these photos.
but at least he have a heart to say sorry in front of so many reporters and people.
i dont think he feels good too.

he is both wrong and correct.

  20. @hbui81 Feb 26, 2008 at 12:09 pm

seriously, it is not totally his fault..Those girls also willing to take part of it..anyway, i felt his apology isn’t sincere..He said those pictures are very private and not intend to be shown to anyone..but he shown to his good friends and even bet with one of directors..

He said he going away from Hong Kong entertainment industry. There no time frame. That doesn’t mean he quit. It means he will focus his career in other countries such as US or hiding himself from Hong Kong triad.

His apology sounded very insincere to me. EDC should apology to nicholas tse. However, Nicholas Tse really a victim. As for Gillian, please don’t act as a victim or whatever.

  21. April Lewis Fan Feb 27, 2008 at 9:35 am

Geez, stop accepting this human trashbag as part of the entertainment circle. He is a ZERO talent spoilt little daddy’s-boy prick.

  22. no edison fan Feb 28, 2008 at 6:24 am

Come on man, not everyone will show to friends. Would you like to show your dick to you friends. geesh, everyone has their own way of doing things. Taking explicit photos is nothing new man, come on. There are many people out there that does it, the only thing is he was unlucky that the photos leaked out. I think photos are meant to be kept and not deleted. Just unlucky thats all. What’s the big deal man? It happens all the time in the US. No big deal. Geeesh. Get over it.

  23. Albert Mar 8, 2008 at 11:11 am

As a computer security consultant.. all I can say is, if you have stuff that might RUIN your life, please consult people like me about how to keep it private.

That said, I think what he does with consenting adults (your gf was 18 at the time right Edison??) is something between him and the women.

We can take a look at this and see the difference between cultures. If this was a Tom Cruise video, and on it was Paris Hilton and the Olsen Twins, the news would fly, but I doubt anybody would quit showbiz because of it.

If this was a Britney or Lindsey or Paris affair, why all it would probably get for them is the cover charge waved at the nightclubs.

  24. Natalie Jun 24, 2008 at 6:42 pm

I hate Edison a lot he lied to all the actress he is a bullshit idiot f*ck asshole he is the one who put out the pictures he want to let all the actress look bad he is a @#*&%&@#!

  25. Shawn Nov 11, 2008 at 9:48 am

I accept his apology. Its easy for others to cast stones when nobody knows whats hidden in their closet. Unfortunetly for Edison his secrets were exposed but he was brave enough to apologize to the public. I don’t think he meant for these pictures to come out, I’m sure he has learned his lesson from this. The only safe place for memories is in your head. This is just an example of the pitfalls of technology.
